Another Word for Beauty: Montage Goodman Theatre
Colombia's Prison Beauty Pageant
Bogota, Colombia (AP) -
In Bogotas Buen Pastor prison, age is not an obstacle to a beauty queen crown. A crowd of rowdy inmates banged drums and cheered as dolled-up inmates strutted their stuff on the catwalk.
The annual beauty pageant at El Buen Pastor is a chance for inmates to escape the harsh realities of prison life and embrace their femininity. The contestants are judged on their beauty, intelligence, and talent.
This year's winner was 25-year-old Johana Medina. Medina is serving a 10-year sentence for drug trafficking. She said that the pageant helped her to feel beautiful and confident.
