Search Suspended for Man Lost Overboard from Cruise
Coast Guard Ends Effort for Missing 35-Year-Old Passenger
The United States Coast Guard has regretfully suspended its search for a 35-year-old man who disappeared after going overboard from a cruise ship in the Pacific Ocean. The victim, Vincent Wasney, was last seen on deck with his fiancée, Sarah Eberlein, on Monday evening.
Unforgettable Experience Turned Tragic
For Wasney and Eberlein, this cruise was supposed to be the adventure of a lifetime. It was their first time experiencing the boundless expanse of the open ocean. However, their dream vacation took a tragic turn when Wasney went overboard.
Eberlein has been cooperating with authorities to piece together the events leading up to the incident. She shared that Wasney had been leaning over the railing and taking pictures of the sunset when he lost his balance.
Extensive Search Yields No Results
The Coast Guard immediately launched a search and rescue mission, involving multiple vessels and aircraft. They searched an area of approximately 2,000 square nautical miles for three days but were unable to locate Wasney.
"Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of Mr. Wasney," said Lieutenant Commander Ryan Sargent, Coast Guard Sector San Francisco spokesperson. "We deployed all available resources in our efforts, but the search had to be suspended due to the extensive search area and challenging weather conditions."
Authorities Offer Condolences and Support
Authorities have extended their condolences to Wasney's family and loved ones. Eberlein is receiving support from her family and friends during this difficult time.
"This is a devastating loss for the family and friends of Mr. Wasney," said Sergeant. "Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy."
