Early Life and Education

Karan Johar was born on May 25, 1972, in Mumbai, India.

His father, Yash Johar, was a film producer, and his mother, Hiroo Johar, was a film producer and costume designer.

Johar attended Green Lawns High School in Mumbai and later studied at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics.

Career in Film

Johar started his career in the film industry as an assistant director to Aditya Chopra on the film "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (1995).

He made his directorial debut with the romantic comedy "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" (1998), which was a critical and commercial success.

Johar has since directed several successful films, including "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" (2001), "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" (2006), and "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" (2013).

Personal Life

Johar is openly gay and has been a vocal advocate for LGBT rights in India.

He has been in a relationship with fashion designer Prabal Gurung since 2018.

Johar is also a father to two children, Yash and Roohi, who were born via surrogacy in 2017.
